Imagine dying and arriving at the proverbial Pearly Gates of Heaven.

But, instead of welcoming us HOME as He usually does with most, God says, “Sorry, it is not your time. You must go back.”

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

One of the most telling and powerful indicators our earthly existence has a definitive and important purpose is this: God essentially locks the gates of Heaven and sends multitudes of people back to human life if we haven’t completed our missions.

That’s right, God sends us back if our life’s purposes are unfulfilled.

Dr. Mary Neal, Author of To Heaven and Back

In fact, God sent millions of Near-Death Experiencers (NDErs) like orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mary Neal back to their human life on Earth and told them it wasn’t their time.

“I drowned. I died. I went to Heaven, and I got kicked out… It was as if I was being gently but firmly told that my mission on Earth had not yet been completed.” Dr. Mary Neal

On average, with 750 NDEs occurring each day, that means every year God sends an astounding 273,750 people back to Earth just in the United States alone – which is only 4.3% of the world’s population.

Fulfilling their life’s purpose was so essential to God’s Divine Plan and their individual soul’s growth that God temporarily locked the Pearly Gates of Heaven and express shipped their surprised souls back to planet Earth to complete it.

From the brink of death, God brought hundreds of thousands of people back to human life after suffering massive heart attacks, gruesome car accidents, death-defying drownings, electrocuting lightning strikes, horrifying plane crashes, etc. WHY?

Because they had not yet finished what God sent them here to do – and their soul came here to do!

“I think of death as some delightful journey that I shall take when all my tasks are done.”

George Eliot, English Novelist

God didn’t let them stay physically dead despite the horrific trauma they experienced because they still had essential earthly purposes to fulfill.

He restarted their hearts, breathed life back into them, cured their cancer, and sent their indomitable spirits back into their often broken and bloodied bodies to heal and finish the job. As we can see, God’s not playing around when there’s important work to be done and duties to be fulfilled on Earth.

“I was being reminded of my responsibility to my two children. I was being ‘told’ benevolently yet firmly of my duty. I wanted to disagree while at the same time knowing it was pointless… I felt like being a very small child whose loving parent insists and directs the tired child to bed. The directive was the only point. I had to go… I returned to my body in the hospital bed.” Grace Bulbulka

“While we were still talking, and I was enjoying the ecstasy of Heaven, my friend gently announced, ‘You can’t stay here any longer. You have to go back to Earth.’ ‘Back to Earth! Oh, no, not back to that horrible place!’ But already I was leaving this beautiful land and slipping back into my body – still enough in Heaven to have no inhibitions, and yet far enough back into my body to have terrible thoughts. Like a kid having a tantrum, I kicked and screamed, ‘Let me stay! Let me stay!’ But all my protesting did no good… The last thing the strong man said to me was, ‘You have more important work to do on Earth, and you must go back and do it! There will come a time of great confusion and the people will need your stabilizing influence. When your work on Earth is done, then you can come back here and stay.’” Arthur Yensen

(Author’s Note: While God sends numerous souls back to their human lives each year, it is important to remember that NDEs are still the exception rather than the norm. Roughly 95% of people who physically die stay in Heaven and don’t come back. Thus, if you’re wondering why your physically deceased loved one didn’t come back, it is highly likely they fulfilled their purposes in God’s eyes.)

What NDErs Learn from Being “Kicked Out” of Heaven

God sending some people back to Earth because they have not yet completed their sacred purposes reveals to us four important concepts when it comes to finding, following, and fulfilling our purpose:

1. We have definite tasks to fulfill for our life and mission-critical purposes for our time on Earth

2. God considers our purposes so important He’ll send us back if we haven’t completed them

3. The specific reasons God sends us back reveal what God considers essential for human life

4. If we’re still alive on Earth, it likely means we still have purposes to serve and fulfill for God

“I was told that I had my work to do on Earth and it wasn’t my time and I had to go back to my body. As my kids would say, I got kicked out. I did what any reasonable person would do, which is, I said, ‘No, I’m not going back, you can’t make me.’ And so they did give me some information at that time about some of the work that I still had to do and some of the mandates for my life, including the absolute mandate of sharing my experiences with other people and giving of myself in that way; helping people to face challenges with hope and see them as opportunities for spiritual growth.’’ Dr. Mary Neal

“Here is a test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: If you’re alive, it isn’t.”

Richard Bach, Author
