Struggling to find your life’s purpose?
On their amazing visits to Heaven, Near-Death Experiencers learn four practical and powerful ways to pinpoint our purposes that we all can use when trying to discover our purpose in life. Use the four ways outlined below to zero in on your life’s purposes.
Our life purposes can be found in the:
1. People who matter most to us.
A big part of our life’s purpose often lies in the people we cherish most.
Our purpose is rooted in our closest relationships and is demonstrated by the love, support, and service we offer to the people who matter most to us—and who, in turn, value us. A deep sense of purpose and meaning can be found in helping and supporting the people (and animals) we love.
While most of the time the people who matter most to us are our family and close friends, there are likely certain groups of people and causes we enjoy helping through volunteering as well. (In the new book Find and Fulfill Your Purpose we provide a powerful exercise that helps us identify our people who matter most to us and the difference we make in their lives.)
2. Strengths that differentiate us.
Our unique talents, skills, and abilities are another key to discovering our purpose.
God purposely gifts each of us with unique strengths and talents that distinguish us from others. Our purpose lies in discovering and using these special gifts to contribute meaningfully to others.
Whether natural or developed over time, these abilities are often central to how we make a valuable difference in our corner of the world. (The book also provides a little known Japanese exercise that helps us uncover our hidden strengths and talents.)
3. Passions that inspire us.
Purpose is often found in the things we’re most passionate about—the activities we absolutely LOVE to do.
God has uniquely designed our purpose to be something that excites, fascinates, inspires, and fully engages us. Our purpose is God’s way of breathing life into us which fits well with the Greek meaning of the word inspire: “God breathed.”
A passionate purpose stimulates our mind, grabs our heart, and stirs our soul. Our purpose in life often aligns with the things we enjoy most, as they provide a powerful source of motivation, meaning, direction, and a sense of contribution in our lives.
4. Pains that shape us.
Finally, the hardships and pains we’ve endured can also play a significant role in uncovering our purpose.
Difficult experiences often provide us with valuable lessons, foster resilience, and enhance empathy. These painful challenges offer the opportunity to connect with others coping with similar struggles by sharing our insights, offering support, helping them navigate the turmoil, and providing the strategies and tools they need to survive, heal, and grow.
By helping and supporting others through life’s hardships, we purposely transform our pain into someone else’s gain and fulfill our life’s purpose. (Find and Fulfill Your Purpose provides a soul-stirring exercise that helps us examine our life’s pains and how they relate to our purpose.)
These four areas and exercises help us pinpoint our essential purposes in life. Once we zero in on our purpose, we can live a life of passion, meaning, and significance.
